|Gerald D. Karabin, M.D. PhD. Dr. Gerald Karabin received his medical degree, Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry, and his internal medicine training from the University of Colorado. He completed his residency from the University of Michigan Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery and is Board Certified.
Dr. Karabin has authored several articles regarding molecular genetics, biochemistry, and various skin diseases including skin cancer, psoriasis, and lupus erythematosus. He received a Predoctoral NIH Research Training Grant, ARCS Research Award, and the Robert W. Goltz Award for Excellence in Dermatology.
He has been practicing as a board certified dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon at Kalamazoo Dermatology since 1991. He is also an Attending Physician and Clinical Professor of Medicine at Michigan State University. He has staff appointments at both Bronson and Borgess Hospitals.
Dr. Karabin specializes in skin cancer treatment, including Mohs micrographic surgery, and also performs general and cosmetic dermatology.
|William F. Weston, M.D.Dr. Weston attended Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Michigan. He received a Bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University. He also graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine as a Medical Doctor, and did his internship at Rhode Island Hospital. He completed a dermatology residency at the University of Michigan where he was also the Chief Resident. He was also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society.
Dr. Weston achieved the rank of Captain in the US Army when he was stationed for two years at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, Georgia at the United States Army Hospital. He also worked as an Emergency Room physician for two years while completing his residency. Dr. Weston became board certified in Dermatology in 1978 and has practiced dermatology for over 30 years at Kalamazoo Dermatology.
He is currently a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Dermatology, Michigan State Medical Society, Michigan Dermatological Society, and Physician’s Review Organization of Michigan, Inc. He has staff appointments at both Bronson and Borgess Hospitals.
Dr. Weston performs general medical dermatology including surgery on benign and malignant skin tumors, phototherapy, and excimer lasers. He also performs cosmetic dermatology including sclerotherapy, diode laser, Botox, injectable fillers, and laser hair removal.
Dr. Weston has been married to Judy for more than 40 years. He enjoys fishing, golfing, photography, woodworking, and snow skiing.
|Therese Birkam-Jade, PA-CTherese Birkam-Jade joined our practice in October 2005. She is a graduate of Allegan High School in Allegan, Michigan. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Science from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, MI., and her Master’s degree of Health Science from University of Alabama, Mobile, AL.
Therese worked in Orthopedics for two years prior to joining Kalamazoo Dermatology. She is currently a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, and the Michigan Dermatology Physician Assistants.
|Jessica Umlor, PA-CJessica Umlor joined our practice in January 2009. She graduated from Forest Hills Central High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She attended the University of Michigan for her undergraduate studies where she received a Bachelors degree in Biology, graduating with honors. She received a Masters degree in Basic Medical Science from Wayne State University, as well as a Masters degree of Medical Sciences from the Physician Assistant Studies program at Western Michigan University.
Jessica has worked in Hematology & Oncology, Cardiology, and Neurology & Sleep Medicine prior to joining us. She is currently a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, and the Michigan Association of Physician Assistants.
Jessica is also a proud mother of three young children.
|Autumn Hopkins, PA-CAutumn joined our practice in July 2012. After graduating from Paw Paw High School, she earned her Bachelors degree with honors, in human biology from Michigan State University and a Masters of Science degree in the PA program at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, MI.
Autumn started her career as a Physician Assistant in General Surgery, detoured through Emergency Medicine/Urgent Care and for the past four years she was practicing Family Medicine. She is a member of American Academy of Physician Assistants, the Michigan Association of Physicians Assistants as well as the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.
Away from work, Autumn enjoys spending time with her beautiful daughters and wonderful husband, gardening, knitting and making jewelry.
